The Anfibio metal detector was the first series of detectors to be released to the public once the Nokta brand announced the merging of both Nokta and Makro.
While there are other models within the Anfibio series, the one up for review is the highly praised Anfibio Multi.
The difference between the models within the series is the frequency. Obviously, this one has selective frequency with three selections to make the most of your hunts regardless of the desired treasure for the day.
Here’s the down low on the brand’s first merger metal detector.

Our Verdict: The Nokta Makro Anfibio is a premium model designed with features to maximize the success rate for expert detector users. It has everything you could want on a do-it-all model, and for the price, we reckon it’s a well-done deal.
Who is the Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi Best Suited to?
The Nokta Anfibio Multi has multiple features that will intimidate a beginner user. Nearly every feature has its own adjustment and volume control for it. There are nine search modes, auto, manual, and tracking ground balance, and frequency shift options. An intermediate and expert user should understand how to make use of all the features as this is no entry-level machine.
It also has a vibration feature, so the Anfibio will be an appropriate detector for the hard-of-hearing. Even though the detector is under $1000, those with some experience and skills with detecting will be willing to pay the pay the purchase price for it.
How Does the Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi Perform?
The Anfibio Multi performs extremely well on both land and water. It’s a high-performance metal detector with features that allows it to function across a variety of terrains. It’s a VLF unit, so there are transmitter and receiver coils that work to create a magnetic field to detect objects and relay signals.
But, with frequency shift, you can change the frequency to one of three preset settings to find the best compromise between sensitivity and depth. This means that no treasure will go undetected if you know what you’re doing. With the one-menu display, you’ll spend less time fiddle-farting around with settings and more time detecting and digging.
Features & Benefits
Selectable Frequency
The Nokta Makro metal detector has what they call “Frequency Shift.” It’s a feature that allows you to change the frequency settings so you can maximize your success in changing ground conditions and for the types of targets you may be after.
Selectable frequency is different to single frequency and multi-frequency. It is where you have multiple frequency settings that are available to use, but the detector can only use one at a time. The preset frequency settings on the Anfibio Multi are 5 kHz, 14 kHz, and 20 kHz. The 5 kHz frequency is very low and offers the best detection for coins and ground penetration.
The 20 kHz is excellent for small objects and low conductive targets. The 14 kHz is the middle ground that allows for detection of both.
Single Menu Display
The single menu display is a convenient and easy to use feature that makes for an intuitive interface. Being able to see and access everything from the main screen eliminates the need to flip through multiple screens that can waste valuable detecting time. It also allows for fast and simple operation.
The display may look cluttered, but everything is placed strategically and is streamlined for quick visual reference. In the center is the Target ID value in two-digit form. You also have the Target ID Scale at the top with the left column settings as follows: Search Modes and Settings.
On the right column are the Options and Ground Balance. Along the bottom are Warning Messages, Battery Level Indicator, Depth Meter, and Magnetic Mineralization Meter.
9 Search Modes
You may be accustomed to 3-5 search modes, but the Anfibio has nine: Gen Delta, 2 Tone, 3 Tone, 4 Tone, 5 Tone, 99 Tone, Beach, Deep, and Cache. Each mode is easily selectable via the directional buttons on the control unit. Each is slightly different and allows for hunting in various terrains and for specific types of targets.
Outside of the preset notch discrimination settings for each search mode, you can also increase or decrease and reject or accept Target IDs and types of metals with the Notch and Discrimination settings. Note that in General Delta mode, discrimination will be disabled.
Underwater Use
The Anfibio metal detector is fully waterproof, so it can be completely submerged under water. It’s IP68 rated, so it can be submerged up to 16.4 feet. This is an extra 6.4 feet versus other dual-use metal detectors. There is also an optional battery pack that can be attached to the detector when the internal battery runs dead.
It’s waterproof, so it’s safe for submersion. The wireless headphones included with the Anfibio are for land-based use, so they are not waterproof. You’ll have to purchase waterproof headphones separately.
EUD Function
This is the Extreme Underground Depth feature where it enables detection of targets that are normally masked by high mineralization ground conditions and hot rocks, like gold. There is no discrimination and all targets have the same tone.
This feature allows you to continuously maintain maximum depth penetration to find those targets that would normally go undiscovered in these types of soil conditions. You can use EUD instantly or continuously, but it can only be utilized in the Tone and Deep modes.
Limitations
Not Multi-Frequency
Obviously, the Anfibio is one decked-out detector, but unlike its name suggests, it’s actually not a multi-frequency machine. Multi-frequency detectors allow use of more than one frequency at a time, but the Anfibio has selective frequency where more than one is available, but only one can be used at a time.
This distinction is important to recognize since “Multi” can be quite deceiving if you don’t get into the details of its features before you buy.
Requires Learning Curve
This isn’t a beginner’s detector where you can just power up and go. There are many features on this jam-packed detector and it’s going to require a learning curve to get going and understand how to maximize its full potential.
Once you’ve gotten to know how the Anfibio works, it won’t be long before you’re pressing buttons like a whiz and detecting in no time.
Popular Questions
Does the Nokta Makro Anfibio Come with a Battery?
The Anfibio Multil has a built-in, internal battery that provides operating time of 9-19 hours. A charging adapter and cable are provided in the package to charge the battery. It can take anywhere between 4-6 hours to come to a complete charge. You can also use a power bank with the metal detector, but when it’s connected, you won’t be able to use wired headphones or submerge the detector.
You can also purchase a waterproof battery pack separately that connects to the back of the armrest. On the battery pack is an input socket to connect wired headphones. It takes 4x AA batteries.
Can the Anfibio Multi Detect Gold?
It can detect gold and larger nuggets using the higher frequency. However, the Anfibio Multi is not a gold specific metal detector as it is more of an all-round treasure hunting device for coins, jewelry, relics, caches, etc. But, it doesn’t mean you won’t find gold with it.
Is it Safe to Use the Nokta Makro Metal Detector in Saltwater?
Yes! Not only can you ground balance to saltwater, the Anfibio Multi has a dedicated Beach mode that allows for maximum operation in wet sand and saltwater conditions. You also have sensitivity and ground balancing settings that are adjustable if you need to further fine-tune the detector for changing terrain while at the beach.
Does the Anfibio Multi Metal Detector Have Multi-Frequency?
No. Essentially, it’s a single frequency VLF detector. However, it does allow for switchable or selectable frequency with its Frequency Shift feature. This allows you to switch the detector into 5 kHz, 14 kHz, or 20 kHz as the need arises. But, you can only use one frequency at a time.
Conclusion
The Nokta Makro Anfibio Multi metal detector is a great buy. It offers a lot of bang for the buck with high-end features that are extremely easy to use.
It has quite the long list of features to brag about for a dual-purpose metal detector that easily puts it above its competition in its price range. While beginners may not want to start with this machine, it certainly should be a worthy consideration when they’re ready for an upgrade.
For experienced detectorists looking for one machine that does it all, the Anfibio Multi is worthy of serious consideration.
